Great grebe / Stordopping

Just before I left for Peru, I was told that grebes give feathers to their chicks to get their stomachs working. When I photographed this couple with a chick riding on the back of one of them, I saw how the female (?) plucked a feather from its side and gave it to its chick. (The little white spot that you se in the bill of the female is that feather...)

Alldeles innan jag for till Peru hörde jag att doppingar brukar ge fjädrar till sina ungar för att få igång deras magar. När jag stod och fotograferade detta stordoppingpar med en unge på ryggen så får jag se hur honan (?) rycker loss en fjäder från sin sida och ger till sin unge. Jag häpnar.
