Pacific [Lesson's] parrotlet / Stillahavssparvpapegoja

A clear 'zidit,' repeated a number of times, attracted my attention. And in the tall tree at the square, I discovered the unusually small flock of parrotlets. It was the local variant of the parrotlet, the Pacific parrotlet, that chattered in the foliage. It was the first time that I saw this species, also called Lesson's parrotlet or Celestial parrotlet. It is only found in western Ecuador and northwestern Peru, but it is quite common in its range. In the United States, it is a common cage bird, bred in captivity for generations back and appears in a variety of color variations. This is a male peeping out of the foliage. The females have slightly less bright blue color over their ears.
