This Crested tit suddenly appeared from nowhere during our visit to Kittan. It is a small tit, it weighs only about 11 grams, while its (distant) relative the Great tit, e.g. weighs a full 16 grams. The Crested tit is nowadays usually placed in a separate genus, Lophophanes, separate from the genus 'Parus' of the Great tit and most other tits. The Crested tit is found in almost all of Europe (except for example Italy) but is most common in coniferous forest areas.
