Agapornis taranta
Black-winged lovebird / Svartvingad dvärgpapegoja

When I was a kid, I raised cage birds and kept them in big aviaries. Among the favorites were lovebirds. I had at least three species over the years. The most attractive and most exotic of all species of lovebirds was the Agapornis taranta, a bird endemic to Ethiopia / Eritrea, and with sexual dimorphism (i.e. that male and female differ in appearance) - which no other Agapornis species represented. I never managed to get hold of a bird from this species, but I saw a couple in an aviary of one of my 'cage bird pals'. Almost half a century after I stopped raising cage birds, this male of the 'exotic' Black-winged lovebird pops up outside my hotel window in Awassa. In this picture, you can clearly see the black wings and the male's red forehead (the female's plumage is entirely green).
