Indicator minor
Lesser honeyguide / Mindre honungsvisare

I have encountered honeyguides before in East Africa, but they have been difficult to photograph. They often move at high altitudes in the trees and the backlight has usually destroyed the pictures. This time we walked on a kind of ridge which resulted in the fact that the trees just beside us were at a considerably lower level. So this Lesser honeyguide was quite high up in the tree - but still at about the same level as my camera. And it actually stayed there for a couple of seconds, so I just had enough time to focus and snap some pictures... The species is divided into six or eight subspecies. This one (conirostris) is sometimes called "Thick-billed honeyguide," which is reasonable if one studies the bill.

Arten delas in i sex eller åtta underarter.
