In addition to the characteristic markings, especially the red eye-ring, this Three-banded plover is distinctly different from other plovers, because the wings and the tail are significantly longer than those of the other species. It is probably the most common, or at least the most widespread plover in Africa, but, as in this picture, it is usually seen alone.
Förutom de karaktäristiska färgteckningarna, särskilt då den röda ögonringen, så skiljer sig denna trebandade pipare tydligt från andra strandpipare genom att vingarna och stjärten är betydligt längre än övrigas. Den är nog den vanligaste, eller åtminstone den mest spridda strandpiparen i Afrika, men den ses, som på den här bilden, oftast ensam.
