During the summer, the Purple sandpiper breeds in the Arctic or in the Scandinavian mountainous world. In the Winter, it migrates South, along the coasts of northwestern Europe and North America's east coast. All the year round, it feeds on small insects. In this photo you can actually see the insect that is the target of this sandpiper... (The picture was taken quite close to the Airport, outside Longyearbyen).
Sommartid häckar skärsnäppan i Arktis eller i den skandinaviska fjällvärlden. Vintertid drar den sig söderut längs kusterna i nordvästra Europa och Nordamerikas östkust. Året om livnär den sig på små insekter. På det här fotot ser man faktiskt den insekt som snäppan har som mål... (Bilden är tagen ganska nära flygplatsen utanför Longyearbyen).
